The Kashmir House
The Kashmir House was built even before independence in 1935 by Lala Amar Nath Sood. However later on the then Maharaja of J&K Sh. Hari Singh purchased The Kashmir House. The Maharaja after some years sold this beautiful house to the Punjab Govt. Now it is the property of HPTDC and the tourism department is running it as a deluxe hotel . Palampur Travel Information

Travel Information - Palampur near Dharamshala

A small but beautiful, calm, scenic town of Palampur is located just about 35 Kms from Dharamshala. On the way from Dharamshala to Palampur you can visit the famous Chamunda Devi Temple and the Gopalpur Zoo if you go via Nagari to Palampur. The another route to Palampur is via Malan and Maranda.

From Chamunda Devi if you take left you will reach Palampur via Nagari and Gopalpur. The right sie will lead you towards Nagrota and Kangra but you need to take left turn after about 4 kms from Chamunda towars Palampur via Paror and Maranda.

Palampur has derived its name from the word for lot of water is "pulum". This is what has given Palampur (1249 m) its name and its water has given the valley so much of its character. Countless streams criss-cross the landscape and in their intricate mesh, hold tea gardens and rice fields. The town came into being when tea plantation was introduced in the 19th century and Palampur became a focus for the planters. Kangra tea, with its center at Palampur, has been internationally acclaimed since then.

To further bless the area with remarkable natural beauty, the Dhauladhar ranges rise dramatically just beyond Palampur. The town itself has interesting colonial architecture and the area around is richly garnished with historical temples and forts and scores of picturesque hamlets.

How to Reach Palampur
The nearest airport is at Gaggal (Kangra) about 38 km from Palampur. Nearest railway station is Palampur at Maranda  (narrow Guage). The nearest broad gauge railway station from Palampur is at Pathankot at a distance of around 120. Frequent buses are available from Kangra, Dharamshala, Shimla, Baijnath, Manali, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and other places. Taxis and buses are available at all places.

Distance of Palampur is about 545 km from Delhi. 30 Km from Kangra, 300 km from Chandigarh, 10 Km from Baijnath
